Hundreds of migrants turn violent to avoid deportation, Home Office figures show
Hundreds of migrants due to be deported avoided being kicked out of the country… because they were too violent to be transported. In the past three years, 602 people assigned for deportation ended up staying behind after battling with officials trying to remove them, Home Office data shows. In 497 cases, there was violence when officials arrived to pick the person up. This could be at an immigration detention centre or their temporary home address. The other 105 became aggressive when they were in transit to the airport, at the airport, or in some rare cases even on the plane. Congress leader in West Bengal and counsel of the Calcutta High Court, Kaustav Bagchi wrote a letter to senior Congress leader and Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi expressing his displeasure with the latter’s recent actions. In the letter, Bagchi claimed that Bengal Congress leaders and workers feel ashamed of Singhvi, who recently represented Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee in a case at the Supreme Court. US immigration body cracks down on fraud in H-1B lottery system, issues warning
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has expressed concern over the increase in fraud associated with the H-1B visa lottery system. They noted that fraud in the H-1B registration system has gone up since the lottery system was implemented. The USCIS said that the computerised drawing of lots designed to choose H-1B applicants has resulted in abuse of the system. “We are working on an upcoming H-1B modernisation rule that will propose, among other improvements, bolstering the H-1B registration process to reduce the possibility of misuse and fraud in the H-1B registration system,” USCIS said. Three families lose 10 members in Gyaspura gas tragedy in Ludhiana
In a tragic incident, 11 people were killed and four injured as they inhaled a toxic gas in Ludhiana’s Giaspura neighbourhood on Sunday morning. Canada: Ex-Indian students may be deported in case related to fake documentation
As many former international students from India face possible deportation from Canada in a case related to fake documentation, Canadian authorities have issued their first removal order in this regard. Karamjeet Kaur, based in the city of Edmonton in the province of Alberta, received the removal order from the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) on April 24, after exhausting her legal options in challenging potential deportation.
