Amaravati, Apr 6 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday participated in the cycle yatra and peddled bicycle for about five kilometers from Venkatapalem village to the Assembly.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) gave a call to people to take cycle and motor cycle yatras in all the districts, demanding the Centre to honour Reorganisation Act provisions, including granting of Special Category Status (SCS) to the state.
The Chief Minister reached Venkatapalem village in the morning and garlanded the statue of TDP founder and former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao. He led cycle rally from the village, located about 5 km away from the Secretariat, to the Assembly via Mandadam village. Ministers, TDP MLAs and other leaders followed him in the cycle yatra.
Earlier, addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister called upon people of the state to take part in the agitations, being organised to demand the Centre for fulfillment of Re-organisation Act provisions. He warned the Narendra Modi government not to play with Telugu people by not fulfilling Re-organisation Act provisions.
He recalled that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi tried to dethrone Mr Rama Rao in 1984 and people knew what happened to India Gandhi later. The Centre is trying to weaken the government of Andhra Pradesh but that could not be possible. Achieving SCS is the responsibility of people of state, he said and claimed that the lightning dharna, organised by the TDP MPs in Parliament on Thursday, created shivers at the National level.
Taking a dig at the Opposition YSRCP for colluding with the BJP leaders, Mr.Naidu said that when all MPs belonging to the state formed a human chain in Delhi, the YSRCP MPs did not participate which reflected their the sincerity and seriousness to achieve SCS.
Meanwhile, a medical student Yogitha donated Rs.5 lakh for the construction of capital city Amaravathi. She gave a cheque to the Chief Minister at the programme.
