Muscat, 30th April 2018: A Tuberculosis Awareness programme was held at Al Injaz, Al Ansab Private School in the Sultanate of Oman by the Infection Prevention and Control Programme (IPCP) School Health Teaching in collaboration with the Community Outreach Committee, OSNI. Hundreds of participants took part in this event meant for grade 8,9,10 and 11 students. This event was in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO)’s 2018 theme — Wanted: Leaders for a TB-Free World.
The Tuberculosis Awareness event is a conscious effort to meet with the Ministry of Health’s campaign programme in the promotion of a safe environment in the Sultanate. The rationale of activity was to assess and evaluate the level of understanding in promoting awareness about Tuberculosis through health teaching among secondary school students. The awareness event was endorsed by Mr. Salim Al Ismaili, Head, IPCP and approved by Dean Oman Specialised Nursing Institute(OSNI) Dr. Manal Al Zadjali.
Hand hygiene was explained in a unique way with a blue ray machine to detect the bacteria on hands. This was aimed at preventing sepsis in healthcare. A video show – Cough Etiquette was presented. The evaluation of the effectiveness of hand hygiene was demonstrated on a blue box ray.
