Hyderabad, May.4 (NSS): Groundwater Department monitors water levels every month through 857 piezometer monitoring network station spread in 584 mandals covering 31 districts in Telangana State.
Groundwater Department director Dr Pandith Madhnure said during the 2017-18 water year, the State received 797mm rainfall (up to April 2018) which ranges from 548 mm (Nagar Kurnool District) to 1082 mm (Medchal District) and the normal rainfall during the period was 878 mm which varies from 514 mm (Gadwal-Jogulamba District) to 1174 mm (Adilabad and Asifabad Districts) and there was a deficit of 9% during the period.
The average groundwater levels in the State during April 2018 was 12.51 meters below ground level (mbgl) and it varies from 6.93 mbgl (Wanaparthy District) to 21.50 mbgl (Medak Dist). A net fall of 0.47 meters in Groundwater level was observed during last month compared to April last year. The fall in water levels was observed in 22 districts and this fall was mainly due to deficit rainfall of 9% during this season, Maximum fall of 3.96 meters is observed in Nizamabad district with 29% deficit rainfall and minimum fall of 0.02 meters is observed in Warangal Urban district with less than one per cent deficit rainfall.
