Hyderabad: Relatives of a 36-year-old housewife Pasupula Eshwaramma, who was declared brain dead by attending doctors, have donated her organs under State-run Jeevandan organ donation scheme.
A resident of Indira Nagar, Velugodu in Kurnool, Eshwaramma and her son were travelling on a two-wheeler to attend a function when a freak accident caused severe injuries to Eshwaramma.
According to Jeevandan officials, the housewife sat on the pillion while her son was riding the bike when her saree end got entangled in the bike’s back wheel. As a result, Eshwaramma fell down, injuring her head in the process.
An unconscious Eshwaramma was rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to Global Hospitals, Lakdikapul for treatment. The neurology team of the hospital, after repeated attempts at reviving her, declared Eshwaramma as brain dead.
After a series of counselling sessions by hospital authorities and Jeevandan volunteers, the family members of Eshwaramma agreed to donate her organs. Her husband gave consent for donating the organs. The surgical team retrieved two kidneys and two corneas for taking up transplant surgeries in other speciality centres.
