‘If we had been serious, we’d have had a nervous breakdown

Mumbai: One look at the trailer of Love Sonia and it was evident, that the film promises to tell a story the society conveniently ignores.

A story about the dark, gritty, Godless world of prostitution. That and about Sonia, played by new-comer Mrunal Thakur, and her search that takes her through the dark lanes of the sex trade. Earlier, the movie premiered at the London Film Festival earlier where it received rave reviews from the critics and for all the right reasons.

Even actress Richa Chadha who plays a sex worker in the Tabrez Noorani directorial is garnering applauds for her performance.

We recently caught up with the actress to learn about her process and what went through her mind when she was filming for it. Speaking about the prep behind it, she said, “You prepare yourself mentally and physically. You do research, you find out exactly what these women s lives are like. At what age were they forced to get into it? Were they kidnapped, raped and sold? It was not an easy preparation but its definitely one of the most important characters that I have played. She also went on to add the things she did to learn mannerisms. I watched a few films for body language like Mandi and I went to the big catchment centres like Kamathipura and Grant road a few times to do research. I also met a few girls and got the firsthand account of how their life has turned after it,” she added.
