NMDC turns 60, VP to kick off Diamond Jubilee fete tomorrow


Hyderabad, Dec.6 (NSS): National Mineral Development Corporation Limited enters the 60th year of its excellence and plans a grand inaugural function here on Friday at Shilpakala Vedika.

Talking to mediapersons here today, N. Baijendra Kumar, IAS, CMD said the State-controlled mineral producer of the Centre was established on November 15, 1958 and Diamond Jubilee celebrations would be formally inaugurated by Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu. He will also unveil a postal Stamp, Logo of the Diamond Jubilee Year of NMDC. He will also present the Prime Minister’s Trophy for the Best Integrated Steel Plant.

Union Minister of Steel Chaudhary Birender Singh will preside over the function. Dr Raman Singh, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh; Vishnu Deo Sai, Minister of State for Steel and Y. S Chowdary, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology & Earth Sciences will also be present. .

Baijendra Kumar said the NMDC, profit-making “Navratna” producing iron ore for the country and some for export also was producing finest quality iron ore. He also said the NMDC was considering commercial gold mining in Australia and Tanzania, he added. In conjunction with the inaugural function of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, a Steel exhibition will also be held wherein most of the Ministry of Steel PSEs and other steel producing companies like TATA, JSW, etc. are also participating.

An audio visual on 60 years of the journey of NMDC will be showcased to the 2000 plus gathering at the inaugural function. A photo exhibition of images which captured its 60 years of journey was also planned. (NSS)
