Hyderabad, Dec.7 (NSS): Students of Chaitanya Bharati Institute of Technology (CBIT) today staged a dharna in protest against the exorbitant fee hike by the management on Thursday.
As the trouble was brewing on the campus, the college management declared holidays for Friday and Saturday. However, it said the students’ opposition to the fee hike will be discussed in the board and an appropriate decision will be announced after the college reopens on Monday.
The students boycotted their examinations and took out a rally on the campus demanding immediate rollback of the hiked fee structure. The annual fee of BTech students has been hiked from Rs 1.30 lakh to nearly Rs 2.00 lakh with retrospective effect. The 2/2 semester students were also asked to pay the differential amount of some Rs 70,000 for their previous year’s study which sparked protest among the students and their parents.
The CBIT management justified the hike saying the amount would be spent on salaries of the teachers and facilities on the campus. However, the students alleged that the management was imposing additional fee in the middle of the course. The affidavits agreeing to pay hiked fees were collected from the students by force, students claimed. (NSS)
