Police teams seize 30 red sander logs, arrests 28 wood cutters

Kadapa Jan 10 (UNI) The red sander smuggling is continuing unabated as the police teams arrested 28 wood cutters and seized 30 red sander logs at three different places of Rayachoti division in this district.

Talking to media in Rayachoti on Wednesday, Additional Superintendent of police Krishna Rao said that the police teams spotted the red sander wood cutters and tried to apprehend them. The wood cutters tried to attack the police with axes, swords and sticks. However, the police escaped from their attack and arrested them.

The ASP said that police team conducted a raid at Upparapalle village and spotted 10 wood cutters of Tamil Nadu. The police arrested them and seized 10 red sander logs. The police conducted another raid at Kottharoad in Veeraballi police station limits and seized 10 red sander logs and arrested 8 wood cutters. The police conducted checking of vehicles at Vandadi village in Chinnamendem police stations limits and seized 10 red sander logs and arrested 10 wood cutters hailing from Tamil Nadu.

The 30 red sander logs weigh 952 kgs. The police also seized 8 axes and 11 sticks from them.

The police had taken up a massive search for the smugglers in the division. The arrested labourers told police that they kept the red sander logs ready to dispatch to a smuggler, who is operating the smuggling from Bangalore. The ASP appealed to the people of the area to inform police about the movements of strangers.
