Amaravati Feb 13 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Forest Department has registered an increase of 1.31 per cent of forest cover in the state from December 2015 to December 2017.
The state currently has a cover of 37.25 lakh hectares of forest area, which is an increase of 2.14 lakh hectares in the last two years. This has put Andhra Pradesh first in the country in terms of forest cover followed by Karnataka and Kerala.
The Mangrove cultivation also has shown a tremendous improvement and has increased by 3,700 hectares, which is second highest in the country. The forest department officials also mentioned that 50 crore seedlings have been planted in the last two years. This move has resulted in improving the air quality to a large extent.
