4 Hindu Mahasabha leaders who plotted cow slaughter in Agra arrested

The Agra Police has detained four Hindu Mahasabha office bearers in connection with a plot to incite communal violence and disrupt peace in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra. India Today on April 8 reported that police revealed names of some members of the Bharat Hindu Mahasabha that surfaced in the cow slaughter plot.

The cow was slaughtered during Ram Navami celebrations in Gautam Nagar of Etmaduddaula area to stoke communal unrest.

On April 7, Agra police detained Nakeem and Rizwan, while searching for two other youngsters, Shanu and Bittu, in connection with a cow slaughter incident in Gautam Nagar.

Nakeem and Rizwan told the police that they were instructed to slaughter cows at the behest of Hindu Mahasabha leaders Sanjay Jat, Saurabh Sharma, Jitendra Kushwaha and Brajesh Bhadauria.

According to ACP RK Singh, the cow slaughter was carried out by Naqeem and his associates but it was a plot by Hindu Mahasabha member Sanjay Jat and others to create communal unrest in the city. These four officials have been arrested and sent to jail.

Sanjay Jat was previously imprisoned in a similar case and is presently out on bail. He was arrested by Lohamandi Police in Agra on February 22, 2023. The first complaint against him was filed in 2019 and he currently faces charges in more than a dozen cases.

While Jitendra Kushwaha faces heat in eight cases, Brajesh Bhadauria and Saurabh Sharma are accused in two and five cases, respectively.
