‘Mourning’ period over, time to get ready for bigger fight: Priyanka
Acknowledging that the “failure to bond with the people of UP” as the reason for Congress’s debacle in the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections, party national general secretary and in charge for UP, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday called upon the cadre to shun the gloom and fatigue and start once again in national interest.

In her first ever face-to-face interaction with party workers, candidates, leaders, former MLAs and MPs at the UP Congress headquarters, Priyanka said: “The entire country has seen the hard work you all have put in. It is beyond doubt that you have inspired the Congress cadre across the country with your tireless efforts.”
“We cannot deny the fact that we have lost miserably despite putting our best foot forward. The results show that whatever we did was not enough, and we failed to connect with the people. Therefore, we must improvise and work in this direction.”
Stating that the time for remaining disheartened is over, she said: “Three months have passed. The mourning period must end. There is no need to feel dejected and lose hope. Many of those who had lost hope in the Congress have left the party. I am sure everyone present in this camp has not given up and is ready to fight with a bigger resolve. Your faith in the party’s ideology is the proof of your commitment which is an achievement. So, gather yourself and start again.”
Reminding the cadre about how the UP Congress has struggled in UP for the cause of the people, raised their issues in the state assembly and on other platforms, Priyanka said: “The Congress must associate with the people on platforms other than politics. They must forge bonds for social and cultural reasons to be able to get accepted by them. The BJP has been able to penetrate into the houses of the people and make them believe that it is the best they can get which is not true.”
She said it was the duty of the Congressmen to make people understand the lies of the BJP.
“It is not an easy task but a Congress worker cannot give up despite difficulties and fatigue. I am ready to work with you come what may,” she said amid slogans like ‘Didi tum sangharsh karo, hum tumhare sath hain’.
“Soon, we will undertake an exercise to assess the performance of leaders and functionaries. This also includes me so that we do not make the same mistakes in future,” she said.
Priyanka also took the opportunity to recognise the efforts of former UP Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu and also lauded MLAs Aradhana Mishra Mona and Virendra Chaudhary for keeping the Congress’s flag high.
