Vijay Varma On Boycott Trends

Vijay Varma who recently appeared in Alia Bhatt’s starrer film, Darlings has now opened up about the viral cancel culture aka the boycott trend. In an interview with India Today, the actor said, “It can scare you. It has just gone a bit overboard now. I feel something that you said 10 years ago could have been objectionable, and made a few people raise their eyebrows. It could be a prevalent exercise at that time, but in today’s times, it is no longer frowned upon. I feel you cannot be canceled for something like that.”

Arjun Kapoor On Boycott Trends

Apart from Vijay many Bollywood celebrities broke their silence on the matter, however, unfortunately, the Ek Villain Returns actor Arjun Kapoor specifically gained quite some attention on his statement on boycott trends, he said, “I think we made a mistake by being silent for so long. Our decency was taken for our weakness. We always believe in ‘let the work speak for itself, all this doesn’t matter. We tolerated a little too much. Now people are used to it.”

He went on to say, “We need to come together and do something about it because what people write about us or the hashtags that trend, are far away from reality. When we do films that do good at the box office, then at that time people like us not because of our surnames but because of the film. Ab zada hone laga hai…unfair hai.” Soon after his statement went viral the netizens brutally trolled the actor and decided to boycott him for his statement.

Meanwhile, earlier Alia Bhatt’s film Darlings also became a target of the boycott trends for promoting domestic violence against men in the film. Darlings is written and directed by Jasmeet Reen and co-produced by Gauri Khan, Alia Bhatt, and Gaurav Verma under the banners of Red Chillies Entertainment and Eternal Sunshine Productions. It is now streaming on Netflix.
