With SRK & Salman’s Films Being Boycotted, Here’s Why Vijay’s ‘Liger’ Might Survive The Storm

It’s an alarming time for Bollywood movies in terms of the ROI and the box office results. With the boycott wave going strong at the moment, producers, actors and distributors have finally understood that the audience cannot be fooled or emotionally manipulated to hound theatres and spend their hard earned money on movie tickets if literally anything about a movie ticks them off negatively.

Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha is unfortunately paying a hefty price for being boycotted by a big chunk of the public.

Post the disastrous runs of big budget films like Shamshera, Samrat Prithviraj, Laal Singh Chaddha and Rakshabandhan at the box office, B-town trade analysts are banking high on some future releases like Liger, Brahmastra, Tiger 3 and Pathaan.

So far this year, only a handful of films like Gangubai, Bhool Bhulaiyya 2, Jug Jug Jeeyo and The Kashmir Files have managed to rake in good profits, and this has once again pushed the North vs South debate further. Cinema lovers have fallen in love with South movies like Pushpa, RRR, Vikram and KGF 2, which have ruled the roost and raked in crazy moolah as well.

Since it’s safe to assume that actors from down South and pan Indian movies are faring much better than Bollywood movies and Bollywood heroes, there’s a fair chance that Vijay Deverakonda’s debut film, Liger, might just survive this boycott storm and break the dry spell as well. Currently cinemagoers are even bashing the likes of SRK and demanding his cameos to be removed from Tiger 3 and asking for both Pathaan and Tiger 3 to be boycotted.

However, Liger has managed to stay away from any major controversies. The audience already loves Vijay, and his North Indian fan base is super excited to see him make his grand debut here. The promotions are going in full flow, and so far the movie hasn’t been targeted for being boycotted. Vijay is already an established star down south with his performances in films like Arjun Reddy and Dear Comrade giving him an edge.

While SRK and Salman Khan’s stardom is unmatched, recent history is proof that stars like Aamir and Akshay have failed to be money magnets for producers. The whole anticipation of watching Tollywood make his star in an action movie is probably what’s making people wait positively and keep the film away from any negative publicity.

While nothing is written in stone as far as current box office trends are concerned, it is absolutely possible for Liger to be a surprise winner for the audience. Only time will tell.
