Imran Khan hails PM Modi again, slams Nawaz Sharif on corruption

Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, once again praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi while contrasting him with Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader Nawaz Sharif on the issue of corruption.

Khan was criticising former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, claiming that no other politician or leader in the world owns properties worth billions in foreign countries.

Addressing a public gathering, Imran Khan said, “If a country does not have rule of law, then it doesn’t get investments. Corruption takes place when there is no rule of law. Tell me one country whose leader has a billion worth of properties outside the country. Even in our neighbouring country, how many properties does PM Modi have outside India?”

“No one can imagine how many assets and properties Nawaz possesses abroad,” Imran Khan added.

Khan, who was ousted from power in April after losing a no-confidence vote in his leadership, had earlier praised India for its independent foreign policy and for buying discounted oil from Russia amid pressure from the West.

“Despite being part of the Quad, India sustained pressure from the US and bought discounted Russian oil to provide relief to the masses. This is what our government was working to achieve with the help of an independent foreign policy,” he had said in a tweet.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief had also claimed that no “superpower” can impose its will on India. Imran Khan’s praise comes at a time when the relations between New Delhi and Islamabad remain strained.
