Riya, who asked IAS officer for sanitary pads, bags advertisement offer
Riya Kumari, who came to the limelight for asking for sanitary pads from IAS officer Harjot Kaur, got an advertisement offer from a sanitary pad company. The company will also bear the expenses of her studies till graduation.
Riya, who lives in Kamala Nehru Nagar in Patna, received an offer from a sanitary pad company to do a commercial advertisement for the company.
In a conversation with BiharTak, Riya said that the company has promised to provide her sanitary pads for a year. It has also assured to bear the cost of education till graduation apart from offering her an offer to join the company’s commercial advertisement.
In a special conversation with BiharTak, Riya emphasized on the need of openly talking about periods.
“Earlier people did not used to discuss it openly, but now we will make people aware about it by going door to door and explaining them that period cannot be hidden but can be overcome with sanitary pads,” Riya said.
At an event in Bihar on Wednesday, school girls made a request for sanitary pads to be made available for free. To this, Harjot Kaur, managing director of Bihar Women Development Corporation, said, “Today, you are asking for sanitary pads, tomorrow you will ask for condoms.”
