Chinese ‘spy’ disguised as ‘Buddhist monk’ nabbed in Delhi
The Delhi Police have arrested a Chinese woman for allegedly being involved in anti-India activities.
News agency IANS has mentioned sources as saying that Cai Ruo, who claimed to be a Buddhist monk, is suspected of being a Chinese spy.
Cai Ruo is a “well-trained and cunning individual who tried to mislead the investigators by claiming that Chinese Communist leaders wanted to kill her and therefore, she fled to India”, a source told the news agency.
The woman had been residing in India as “Dola Lama, a Nepalese national”.
Moreover, she obtained a ‘Nepalese Identity Card’ to prove that she was a resident of Kathmandu.
She conversed fluently in English with the Delhi Police personnel but did not know the Nepali language. She, in fact, speaks fluent Chinese, according to police.
olice later discovered that she had a Chinese passport in her name, and she had been residing in India on the basis of that passport.
She entered Nepal in 2020 via the Raniganj border area in West Bengal, India. After procuring Nepalese IDs, she again entered India.
In accordance with her records with the Foreigners Registration Office, she resides in the Hainan Province in China.
According to reports, she was trying to incite unrest across the country.
“She told us that as she was Buddhist and the Communist leaders wanted to kill her. She had no other option but to flee China. However, we have found that she had been spying and was involved in anti-national activities,” the source said.
According to the source, officials received a tip-off that a woman Chinese spy had been residing in the national capital.
Cai Ruo was found to be promoting anti-national activities after assessing the input, said IANS.
After that, a police team was assembled, and a raid was conducted. Eventually, Cai Ruo was nabbed from her hideout at around 1 pm from Majnu Ka Tila, Delhi.
Police filed an FIR against her under Sections 120-8, 419, 420, 467, and 474 of the Indian Penal Code.
“She was living in India illegally as a Buddhist monk so that she could evade security agencies’ scanner. She had been spying and hatching conspiracy against the nation. She had been found in the possession of fabricated documents, ID cards… we are taking this matter seriously,” the source said.
Ruo, through her counsel Deepak Tyagi, has moved a petition seeking officials’ permission to speak to her family members in China.
According to the source, the probe agencies will check whether the woman has ties to the Popular Front of India (PFI), since she is involved in anti-national activities.
Her arrest was also reported to the National Investigation Agency and intelligence agencies.
