T20 World Cup: Jos Buttler requests Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid to leave before champagne celebration, wins hearts

England captain Jos Buttler came up with a heartwarming gesture after their triumph in T20 World Cup 2022 final against Pakistan on Sunday, November 13. Buttler’s England outclassed Pakistan by 5 wickets in the big final and the celebrations started right after Ben Stokes hit the winning runs at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

There were victory chants, dance, fireworks and champagne as England players and their support staff celebrated their historic triumph. Jos Buttler walked up to the presentation ceremony at the MCG and collected the World Cup trophy.

Buttler and his teammates posed for the photographers with the trophy and the winners’ medal around their necks. As the photo session was about to get over, the England captain reminded Moeen Ali and Jos Buttler about the champagne celebration that was to follow, respecting their faith.

Following Buttler’s gesture, the two cricketers left the stage and only rejoined their teammates after the champagne celebration was over.

Notably, Eoin Morgan had also come up with a similar gesture during England’s celebrations after their 2019 World Cup triumph at Lord’s, London.

Buttler was also joined by his children and wife during the celebrations at the MCG. On Monday, Buttler posed with the World Cup trophy at Brighton beach in Melbourne.

Buttler led England to T20 World Cup glory in his first major tournament as England captain. The 32-year-old played a key role, giving a rapid start to England in their chase of 138 on a sluggish pitch, hitting a 17-ball 26.

Ben Stokes shone with a well-paced 52 not out as England gunned down the target with an over to spare.

England are evolving into one of the most consistent white-ball teams, having won the 50-over World Cup in 2019, reached the semi-final at last year’s T20 World Cup and won the T20 World Cup in 2022.
