Enough Is Enough! After India’s ‘Embarrassing’ Loss, BCCI Summons Rohit, Dravid & Kohli

After India’s embarrassing defeat at the hands of Bangladesh, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come out of its slumber and summoned captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, former skipper Virat Kohli, and National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman for a review meeting.

According to a report published in The Indian Express, the BCCI top brass is shocked with the way Rohit Sharma and his men have been outclassed by the seventh-ranked team in the world in the ongoing ODI series.

The selectors sent in a first-string squad to take on their Asian rivals but most of the top stars have fared way below expectations. The fact that India lost both matches from a position of strength has made these defeats even more unacceptable.

This is India’s worst bilateral series defeat under the current regime and the BCCI has summoned the leadership group for a review meeting after the tour to understand what has led to a sudden decline in India’s performance.

This review meeting was long pending. It was supposed to happen after the 2022 T20 World Cup which ended with a crushing 10-wicket defeat at the hands of England in the semi-finals.

The meeting, however, couldn’t take place before the Bangladesh tour as some of the office bearers weren’t available. Following the Indian players’ “embarrassing performance” in the last few days, the BCCI has said enough is enough and called for a performance review meeting.

“We weren’t able to meet the Indian team before going to Bangladesh as some of the office bearers were busy but we will schedule it as soon as the team is back from Bangladesh. It has been an embarrassing performance and we didn’t expect this team to lose to Bangladesh,” a top BCCI official said as quoted by The Indian Express.

India will host the ODI World Cup next year and the BCCI knows that if the team carries on on the same downward trajectory, it will become a mockery in front of the whole world.

It’s important to hold people accountable and the BCCI intends to do just that with this review meeting.
