Police aspirants allege corruption, tampering in physical tests

HYDERABAD: Aspirants who appeared for the police recruitment exams alleged tampering of results and corruption in the physical efficiency tests, even as many continue to protest the revised requirements for police constables.

Twenty-five-year-old Swamy (name changed), of Annamayya district in Andhra Pradesh, said he was disqualified in the height test. Alleging favouritism, he said that his height had “decreased by three centimetres” when compared to the height recorded when he took the test in 2018.

“Although officials are claiming to be using technology, they have tampered with them (software) to make way for a few people,” he said.

Swamy was accompanied by several other aspirants who had gathered at Somajiguda, demanding transparency in physical efficiency tests and rollback of revised requirements.

Another aspirant, 24-year-old Shekar (name changed), from Hyderabad said he had qualified in the 1,600-metre event, but was disqualified in the shot-put event despite meeting the requirements.

“First of all, they have changed the qualifying distance from 5.6 metres to six metres, which is a major concern. Moreover the 1,600-metre running and shot-put are conducted one after another. As a result, the majority of the candidates are disqualified as they are exhausted after the running event,” he said.

The aspirants urged the government and the police recruitment board to admit those who cleared the 1,600-metre running event. “A couple of aspirants have already died while taking the events. Still, the government is not coming up with any corrective measures,” a protester said.

Meanwhile, BJYM workers, protesting at Pragati Bhavan demanding relaxations in physical efficient tests, were detained and shifted to the Goshamahal stadium. They were let off in the evening.
