CM Kejriwal announces Rs 1 crore ‘Samaan rashi’ for kin of ASI who died in line of duty

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for the family of an assistant sub-inspector of Delhi Police, who was stabbed while trying to catch a man accused of snatching a mobile and died during the course of treatment at a hospital.

The deceased has been identified as ASI Shaheed Shambhu Dayal.

CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “ASI Shambhu Dayal did not even care for his life to protect the public and became a martyr. We are proud of him. No amount can compensate for the loss of a loved one’s life, but we will provide his family with a Samman Rashi of Rs 1 crore as a mark of honour. For the safety of the society, Shambhu Dayal risked his life. Now, it is our duty to take care of the family of such a brave policeman.”

Talking about the mobile snatching case, the Delhi Chief Minister said, “A woman came to the police station and complained that someone had snatched her husband’s mobile. The station house officer there asked ASI Shambhu Dayal to go with the woman and probe the matter.”

“ASI Shambhu Dayal took the complainant to the locality, where the mobile snatching took place, to identify the accused. The woman pointed out the accused and Shambhu Dayal caught him. While he was taking the accused to the police station, the person pulled out a knife which he had kept hidden under his shirt and stabbed him. ASI Shambhu Dayal was taken to BLK Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries,” said Kejriwal.

“We rarely see such officers who can put their lives at risk for the security of the common man and the country. Delhi is proud of an officer like Shambhu Dayal. The entire country is proud of him. Such bravehearts  are an asset for the country and for their family. To honour his service to the nation and the police department, the Delhi government will give Rs. 1 crore as ‘Samman Rashi’ to his family. I pray to God that Shambhu Dayal’s soul rests in peace and his family musters the courage to handle the loss,” said Kejriwal.
