‘I’m Human, Not Machine’ Sarfaraz Khan Exposes Chetan Sharma’s Lies About India Selection
he Indian teams for the upcoming series against New Zealand and Australia were named by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last week.
The teams were picked by Chetan Sharma-led selection committee, who got sacked a few months back when Team India failed to win the T20 World Cup 2022.
While the T20I and ODI squads for the New Zealand series received praise as Prithvi Shaw was named in the T20I squad, the Test team, however, raised a lot of eyebrows.
Sarfaraz Khan, who performed extraordinarily well in domestic cricket, was once again overlooked for international cricket while one of his friends Suryakumar Yadav was rewarded for his sublime form in the shortest format of the game.
A dejected and heartbroken Sarfaraz opened up on his snub in a chat with The Times Of India where he subtly exposed the lies dished out to him by chief selector Chetan Sharma.
Sarfaraz mentioned that he was asked to be ready for the Bangladesh Test series during the Ranji Trophy final where he scored a century for Mumbai. Chetan Sharma promised him that he will get rewarded for scoring a truckload of runs in domestic cricket.
However, when the squad was announced, his name was missing. As he met Chetan Sharma recently, he was told by the chairman of selectors that good things take time and his time will come
“During the Ranji Trophy final at Bangalore, when I scored a century, I met the selectors. I was told that ‘you’ll get your opportunity in Bangladesh. Be ready for that.’ Recently, I met Chetan Sharma sir (chief selector) while we were checking in at the hotel in Mumbai. He asked me not to feel disheartened, and that my time will come. Good things take time to happen. You’re very close (to an India berth). You’ll get your chance. So, when I played another important knock, I had expectations. But it’s alright,” Sarfaraz was quoted as saying by Times Of India.
This shows how fake promises were dished out to a batter who is only behind Don Bradman in terms of average in First Class cricket.
Sarfaraz, however, said that he will not keep this setback with him for too long and will continue to work hard and let destiny decide his fate.
