Rajasthan Congress row: Kamal Nath to broker peace

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot.

NEW DELHI: Stalemate continued in the Rajasthan Congress, with the party’s high command roping in former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath to defuse the tussle between Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot. The Congress high command has also sought the intervention of former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Rajasthan Congress incharge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who had previously threatened action against Pilot, backed off as the party big wigs were deployed to end the stand-off.

Pilot met with Kamal Nath and AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal late on Thursday. Sources said the meeting was inconclusive. The senior leaders are expected to reach Jaipur in the next few days and hold talks.

Many insiders feel that Randhawa jumped the gun while terming the dharna by Pilot against the corruption of the previous Vasundhara Raje-led government as ‘anti-party’ activity. Post the meeting with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Randhawa reiterated that action needed to be taken in the state.

But with senior leaders stepping in to take action on the issue, it was evident that action against Pilot is not the priority of the top brass.

Insiders claim there has been no action against three Rajasthan MLAs, who staged a coup in September last year and prevented a CLP meeting from taking place.
