The Trinamul Congress supremo asserted that a united opposition can come to power at the Centre in 2024

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday gave a fresh call to Opposition parties to unite to defeat BJP in the Lok Sabha elections next year and bring “a change the country needs.” The Trinamul Congress supremo asserted that a united opposition can come to power at the Centre in 2024.

Speaking on the completion of second year of her party’s third term in power in the state, Banerjee said, “I urge all the Opposition parties on this auspicious day to come forward and get united. If there is unity in the opposition, I am sure the BJP will lose power this time.”

She then observed, “There is no power on this earth which can overcome people. People is our first and last choice. And we are not losers this time, we are the winners.”

The TMC chief claimed, “We have been fighting money power, muscle power and mafia power of an atrocious and a terrible government. A change is needed in our country. The next election will be an election for change. Why would we support a government which brought demonetization, NRC, tortures and killings?”

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the CM alleged, “The whole country is reeling under atrocities, anarchy and malnutrition. Instead of doing any public talk some people only make Jhooth ki Baat in the garb of doing Mann Ki Baat.”

She pointed out, “I heard they unveiled a manifesto for the Karnataka Assembly polls. A promise to provide three gas cylinders was made. Where is the Ujjwala scheme then? It disappeared in just three months. Similar promises of giving two cylinders were made in Uttar Pradesh. But nothing is there.”
