Union home minister Amit Shah.

VIJAYAWADA: Ten Left parties have called on people of the state to protest against the visit of Union home minister Amit Shah to Visakhapatnam on June 8 to mark the completion of nine years of the Narendra Modi government’s rule at the Centre.

Shah is also scheduled to address a public meeting.

The call has been issued by V. Srinivasa Rao (CPM), K. Ramakrishna (CPI), Y. Sambasivarao (CPI-ML, New Democracy), Jasti Kishorebabu (CPI-ML), Kaatam Nagabhushanam (MCPI, U), N. Murthy (CP-ML, Liberation), B.S. Amarnath (SUCI, C), P.V. Sundararama Raju (Forward Bloc) and Janaki Ramulu (Revolutionary Socialist Party)

They described the Central rule as a nine-year-old BJP insurgency.

They recalled that in 2014, the BJP had promised special category status (SCS) to AP for capturing power in the Lok Sabha elections. But after coming to power, it has not kept the promise. The Centre announced a meagre special package without reference to the SCS or fulfilling the assurances made under the AP Reorganisation Act.

They also leaders pointed out that the BJP-led central government has not released funds for completion of the Polavaram project. There is no record of its concern for the resettlement of over two lakh persons displaced by the project.
