KTR blasts CM Revanth Reddy over Musi demolitions, urges unity among affected families

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao called on the affected families of Musi River beautification project to fight unitedly and resist the ongoing demolitions of their homes. He vowed to extend necessary physical and legal support to the oustees on behalf of the BRS to safeguard their homes.

“Be ready with brooms and wheelbarrows in front of your homes. If you stay united, we will stand with you, and fight legally, even if it costs Rs 10 crore,” he assured, while addressing the affected families from Ambedkar Nagar, Annapurna Nagar, New Tulsiram Nagar and surrounding areas in Golnaka of Amberpet constituency here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Rama Rao criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for targeting the poor during the festive season of Dasara and Bathukamma, accusing him of bearing grudge against them for not voting for the Congress. “People are living in fear, worried about when their homes will be demolished,” he said, blaming the Congress government for causing distress among the poor.

Advising the residents to stay united, the BRS working president emphasised the need to form WhatsApp groups to stay connected and be prepared to confront officials trying to demolish their homes. “If a bulldozer comes to one house, everyone must come together,” he stated. He also warned against falling prey to mediators attempting to deceive them. “Be ready with brooms and wheelbarrows in front of your homes. If you stay united, we will fight with you, even if it costs in crores,” he assured.

In a symbolic act of defiance, he suggested that the residents replace the “RB-X” demolition markers with ‘KCR’. “Write KCR on your house. Let’s see who dares to demolish them,” he declared. He termed the Musi Riverfront Development project as a ploy by the Chief Minister to funnel funds to his Delhi bosses. He reminded the Congress of their unfulfilled promise under the Indiramma scheme, where homes were supposed to be built, not destroyed.

Rama Rao also trained guns at BJP leaders for their silence on the issue, questioning Union Minister G Kishan Reddy’s failure to speak out for his constituents. “A true leader treats his constituents as his gods and comes to their rescue when needed, rather than seeking votes in the name of the God,” he remarked.

He ridiculed Revanth Reddy’s proposal to spend Rs 1.5 lakh crore to clean 55 km of the Musi River, comparing it to the larger Namami Gange project, which cost Rs 40,000 crore. He said the BRS government had already taken steps to clean Musi River by installing sewage treatment plants (STPs) and building bridges, proposed at Rs 16,000 crore and already spent Rs 4,000 crore. “How has the cost exploded under the Congress government?” he questioned.

The former Minister warned that not 16,000 families, but over 40,000 families could be displaced by the project and demanded compensation and jobs for the victims. He said Despite warnings from the High Court, the Revanth Reddy government is shamelessly continuing demolitions in some areas. “We will not remain silent, while the poor are harmed,” he added.

Rama Rao challenged the Congress to fulfill the six guarantees they promised during their election campaign. “We built one lakh double-bedroom houses for the poor. If you have the guts, give two lakh houses. If you fail to deliver, the people will not sit quietly. When you come asking for votes during the GHMC elections, they will show you the door with the same vote,” he said.
