TSDCA seizes stocks of drugs worth Rs. 19.35 lakh in September

Overall, this year (between January and September), a total of 392 cases are initiated by the TSDCA for various kinds of offenses

Hyderabad: Continuing its efforts at regulating the quality of drugs that are available to general public, the Telangana State Drug Control Administration (TSDCA), in the month of September seized stocks of drugs worth Rs 19.35 lakh, in addition to initiating a total of 54 cases for various kinds of offenses during the same time frame.

A total of 54 cases were initiated in the month of September and the nature of violations included unlicensed medical shops that were involved in sale of steroids and cardiac stimulants (09), quacks and unlicensed stocking and sale of drugs (26), drug manufactured and sold as food products and nutraceuticals (14), unlicensed manufacturing (01), expired drugs (03) and banned drugs (01).

Overall, this year (between January and September), a total of 392 cases are initiated by the TSDCA for various kinds of offenses. Out of the 392 cases, a total of 132 cases were initiated under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, seizures for misleading advertisements, followed by 92 cases on quacks and unlicensed stocking and sale of drugs.

Cases against other offenses include 70 DPCO (Drugs Price Control Order) for price violations, 34 cases related to drug manufactured and sold as food products or nutraceuticals, 49 cases for unlicensed manufacturing, unlicensed medical shops and godowns, physician samples and expired drugs, cases on spurious drugs rackets, 5 cases on unlicensed cosmetics manufacturing, three cases for manufacturing and sale of banned drugs and one cases for misbranded cosmetics, DR TSDCA, V B Kamalsan Reddy said.

The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10.30 am to 5 pm on all working day
