Hyderabad: Five persons were injured when All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and Congress party workers clashed at Nampally constituency on Monday afternoon.
The clash took place around afternoon when Congress party leader and Nampally MLA contestant candidate Feroz Khan, was meeting people during the course of a padayatra in the Nampally constituency.
The Congress party workers were suddenly confronted by a mob led by AIMIM Nampally MLA, Mohd Majid Hussain who rushed towards the Congress party workers. A free for all ensued with the AIMIM workers attacking the Congress party workers and vice-versa.
In the melee, a man snatched away a lathi from a woman constable and attacked a Congress worker on his head. In the videos that were making the rounds in several social media platforms, the Nampally MLA was also heard hurling abuses at the Congress party leaders and workers.
A handful of policemen had a tough time in controlling both the groups. On receiving information, senior police officials along with additional forces rushed to the spot and dispersed the gathering.
The police presence in and around Bazarghat, Red Hills, AC Guards, Nampally, Mallepally and Humayunnagar was increased following the clash.
