Harish Rao pays tribute to human rights activist Prof Saibaba

By donating his eyes and body to Gandhi Hospital, Saibaba had set an example for everyone, says the BRS leader

Hyderabad: Former Minister and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao paid floral tributes to educationist and human rights activist Professor GN Saibaba, who passed away on Saturday, at the latter’s residence in Moula Ali. He recalled the ordeal of Saibaba and his family during his long legal battle.

Speaking on the occasion, Harish Rao lamented that a person with disabilities like Saibaba was detained under illegal charges and spent many years in prison in a UAPA case, before the Supreme Court acquitted him of all charges recently.

“Saibaba’s death is truly saddening. My condolences to his family, who endured indescribable agony for a decade while he was imprisoned on unjust charges,” he said.

The former Minister reminded that the principle of justice was that even if a hundred accused go unpunished, one innocent person should not be. “Who will answer for the suffering that Saibaba endured?” he asked, stating that Saibaba’s passing away soon after he was proved innocent, was heartbreaking.

He said by donating his eyes and body to Gandhi Hospital, Saibaba had set an example for everyone.
