BRS reaches out to Group-I aspirants, KTR to meet agitators on Thursday

Candidates requested the BRS leader to visit Ashok Nagar and listen to their grievances, to which he said he would meet them and support them

Hyderabad: Raising concern over the treatment meted out by the police to Group-I candidates who hit the streets on Wednesday, the BRS leadership responded to their call, with party working president KT Rama Rao promising to meet them on Thursday.

Group-1 candidates had requested Rama Rao to visit Ashok Nagar and listen to their grievances, to which he said he would meet them and support them.

Anticipating his visit, Ashok Nagar area in the city, hub of study centres coaching the aspirants witnessed heavy police deployment since Wednesday night. In view of the concerns that further problems for the protesters resulting in more arrests in the event of his visit to Ashok Nagar, they wanted to meet Rama Rao in Telangana Bhavan on Thursday.

Taking to social media platform X, Rama Rao condemned the police arrests of Group-1 candidates, demanding the immediate release of those arrested. The candidates have been urging the government to reschedule their exams, a demand that has been ignored for a long time.

In protest against the State government’s stubborn stance on rescheduling the exams, the candidates, along with unemployed students and youth, had staged a peaceful protest in Ashok Nagar. However, the police under the Congress regime was suppressing the rights of educated youth to express their dissent, he said.

The candidates have filed several cases in the High Court seeking justice on various issues. Despite this, the government is attempting to conduct the Group-1 Mains exams on October 21, using a court ruling as a pretext. The BRS leader questioned the government’s reluctance to reschedule the exams when the students themselves were requesting it.

He slammed the Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, for seeking votes from the youth in Ashok Nagar but ignoring their aspirations once in power. He urged Congress leaders to take note of the undemocratic stance of the State government.
