Tension grips Secunderabad and Ashoknagar localities as protests erupt over temple desecration and on conduct of Group 1 exam

Heavy contingents of police are being rushed to the area in view of reports of massive gatherings in the locality and law enforcement officials say the situation was under control.

Hyderabad: Tension escalated at Muthyalamma temple in Secunderabad on Saturday after hundreds of devotees gathered in response to a bandh called by local traders to protest against the desecration of the temple last week.

Heavy contingents of police are being rushed to the area in view of reports of massive gatherings in the locality and law enforcement officials say the situation was under control.

The bandh was called to protest against the descretation and seeking stringent punishment to the alleged intruder who was caught and thrashed soundly by people before police moved in.

Meanwhile, tension soared in Monda market locality also, when a group of people tried to force their way into a hotel, where the alleged desecrators of the temple held meetings. The police had earlier identified that the desecrator belonged to a group which organized regular meetings in the particular hotel.

With the Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay reaching to Ashoknagar cross roads to express solidarity with the agitating students of group-1 exams seeking postponement of exams, tension was escalating in Ashoknagar locality also.
