When the BRS was in power, 42 lakh tonnes of fish seedlings were distributed in 69 tanks in Karimnagar assembly constituency. However, this was reduced to 21 lakh tonnes this year, said MLA Gangula
Karimnagar: Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar found fault with the State government for reducing the quantity of fish seedlings given for distribution this year.
When the BRS was in power, 42 lakh tonnes of fish seedlings were distributed in 69 tanks in Karimnagar assembly constituency. However, this was reduced to 21 lakh tonnes this year. Similarly, 2.20 crore lakh tonnes fish seedlings were distributed in various water bodies across the district last year. However, it was reduced by half this time around, the MLA said while distributing fish seedlings in Asifnagar tank in Karimnagar rural mandal on Friday.
In order to protect caste occupations in the State, the former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had introduced different schemes for the welfare of various castes. With an aim to bring a blue revolution, all tanks in the State were filled with water besides distribution of fish seedlings free of cost being launched by the previous BRS government. As a result, fishermen as well as other communities who depended on tanks benefited. The State also reached a position to export fish to other areas. Subsequently, fishermen earned money by selling fish in the market.
However, the situation has changed under the Congress regime and caste occupations are facing issues because of the State government’s decisions, he said.
