Phone tapping case: Telangana High Court extends interim relief to Harish Rao

The BRS MLA is ready to cooperate with the investigation and he would appear before police if required, says petitioner’s counsel

Hyderabad: Justice K Lakshman of the Telangana High Court on Friday extended the interim order granted to BRS MLA T Harish Rao till January 28, in connection with the phone tapping case.

In the interim order, the court has directed the Punjagutta Police not to arrest him. During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel stated that Rao is ready to cooperate with the investigation and he would appear before the police if required by the police. The case, registered on December 1, accused Harish Rao of involvement in criminal conspiracy, extortion, breach of trust, criminal intimidation, and violations of the IT Act, 2008. The police department has filed its counter and the same is taken on record. The FIR stems from allegations made by Gadhagoni Chakradhar Goud, who claimed that Harish Rao used State intelligence resources to illegally tap his phone and those of his family members. The complaint alleged that these actions were part of a broader effort to intimidate Goud due to his social activism and political rivalry with Harish Rao. Justice Lakshman adjourned the case to January 28 for further hearing.
