Hyderabad: Several people had a miraculous escape when fire broke out late on Saturday night at a residential building in Bahadurpura.
Fire started in the cellar of a ground plus four storied building located at Kishanbagh, a little after midnight. It spread rapidly to the ground and upper floors.
On noticing thick smoke engulfing the building, in order to escape the inmates tried to rush towards the ground floor only to notice that they could not move out due to thick smoke. They managed to reach the first floor balcony and sought help.
The locals who noticed the people trapped inside the building placed ladders and rescued those trapped inside after breaking the windows and brought them out safely. The fire fighters arrived at the spot on information and also helped in the rescue of the people.
The fire fighters had a tough time controlling the fire as there were no setbacks to the building that hindered their free movement for firefighting purposes.
“Five fire tenders were deployed to control the fire. There are no fire safety measures in the building and no setbacks to help the firemen operate during emergencies. After a lot of efforts the fire was brought under control,” said Chandulal Baradari , Station Fire Officer, K Surender Reddy.
The local police had assisted the fire fighters in the operation and dispersed the crowds. The local Bahadurpura MLA, Mohd Mubeen visited the place and spoke to the officials.
