Daily wage worker from Odisha caught smuggling marijuana at Secunderabad

The police found his movements suspicious, they detained him and seized the marijuana from him

Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) along with the Railway Protection Force nabbed a drug peddler, Lambodar Jena (43), a daily wage worker from Hyderabad, a native of Odisha, on charges of smuggling marijuana from Kendrapara, Odisha to Secunderabad at Secunderabad Railway Station on Wednesday.

About a year ago, Jena shifted to Hyderabad from Bengaluru in search of work. “At his workplace, people frequently approached him asking for marijuana as he belonged to a region which was widely known for cultivating marijuana,” said a police official.

In November 2024, his mother passed away in his village and he went to his native place for her final rites. Later, he went to the Kendrapara forest area and purchased about 4 kilograms of marijuana for Rs 4,000 from an unknown person.

Then he travelled to Bhubaneswar Railway Station by bus, where he boarded the Konark Express train to Secunderabad. He arrived at Secunderabad Railway Station and was trying to evade the security check. When the police found his movements rather suspicious, they detained him and seized the marijuana from him.

He was planning to sell the marijuana for about 1 lakh to consumers in Hyderabad.
