Hyderabad: AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi raised alarm over frequent power cuts in Telangana, particularly Hyderabad, stating that unaccounted shutdowns were disrupting daily life and even forcing IT firms in Hyderabad to allow employees to work from home. He accused power discoms of purchasing excess electricity at inflated rates.
Participating in discussion on the budget demands in the Assembly on Wednesday, Owaisi also pointed out about lack of fire safety infrastructure, questioning how authorities permitted 26-floor high-rises while having equipment to handle fires only up to 14 floors. He demanded more fire stations and refilling units in key areas like Hitech City.
The AIMIM floor leader also criticised the police for prioritising revenue collections through fines over managing traffic congestion and rising accidents. Citing the annual crime report, he expressed concern over increasing crimes against women and children, corruption trends, and incidents of communal violence.
A heated exchange erupted between Owaisi and Minister Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka after she interjected, accusing him of unfairly blaming the Congress government. She claimed that the rise in crimes against women is linked to drugs among other issues.
In response, Owaisi said that the Minister might not have understood his speech as she was not well-versed in either Urdu or English, while he was not fluent in Telugu. He advised her to have it translated into Telugu to grasp the concerns he raised.
