Hyderabad: The city-based Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd. (MEIL) has bagged a purchase order worth Rs 12,800 crore EPC contract from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) for building two 700 MWe nuclear reactors—Kaiga Units 5 and 6—in Karnataka. This is the biggest ever order placed by the NPCIL and marks MEIL’s first major step into the nuclear energy sector, a company press release said here on Wednesday.
The order was formally handed over MEIL Director (Projets) Ch. P. Subbaiah. “This is a moment filled with pride, recognition, and a deep sense of responsibility for the MEIL”, the company said.
The NPCIL had, for the first time, used the Quality-cum-Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) method for awarding this project to strike a balance between quality and cost. The MEIl was chosen in tight competiion with industry giants like BHEL and L&T, for its strong technical approach and competitive pricing, a company spokesman said.
With a solid track record of delivering large-scale projects across India and abroad, MEIL is stepping into this new responsibility with a strong sense of purpose and dedication. This step into nuclear energy adds a new chapter to MEIL’s journey and strengthens its growing role in shaping India’s infrastructure and energy future, the note added.
