Hyderabad: Cyber fraudsters duped a man of Rs 1.80 lakh after conning him into showing his credit card including the CVV number over a WhatsApp video call.
According to the police, the 48-year-old private employee had received a phone call from some person who claimed to be from the SBI Credit Card Office.
The scammer informed the victim that as he was not using the credit card for a long time a fine was imposed on him. The fraudster assured to help the victim and get the fine waived off.
On the pretext of helping him, the conman made a video call to the victim and asked him to show the credit card. Subsequently, an amount of Rs 1.80 lakh was debited from the bank account of the victim although the man had not shared any One Time Password with the conman. Interestingly, the victim’s credit card limit was Rs 50,000 only. On a complaint, the police registered a case and are investigating.
The police asked the people not to answer calls received from unknown phone numbers nor share the credit card details or images, CVV and OTP numbers.
