Appreciates party Khanapur constituency in-charge Johnson Naik for his tireless work and being a selfless leader committed to the welfare of the people
Hyderabad: Six young men from Telangana, who were languishing in a Malaysian prison for months, returned home safely, thanks to the intervention of BRS working president KT Rama Rao and party Khanapur constituency in-charge Bhukya Johnson Naik.
Six men from Adilabad district – Rachakonda Naresh, Talari Bhaskar, Gurujala Shankar, Gurijala Rajeshwar, Gunda Srinivas (all from Lingapur village in Kadam mandal), and Yamunoori Ravinder (from Munyal in Dasturabad mandal) – had travelled to Malaysia last year to earn a livelihood. However, they were arrested under arms-related charges due to lack of awareness of local laws.
Upon learning about their plight, Rama Rao instructed Johnson Naik to intervene. Naik first met the families in Adilabad, then flew to Malaysia in March where he met the imprisoned individuals. He hired legal counsel at his own expense, and expedited legal proceedings. In May, he paid the court-imposed fines and arranged tickets for their return to India.
The rescued men met the BRS working president at his residence in Nandi Nagar on Wednesday, along with Johnson Naik. They thanked Rama Rao for the support that united them back with their families. They lamented that no help came from either the Indian Embassy or the State government authorities during their ordeal, contrasting it with how other countries acted swiftly to aid their citizens.
On the occasion, Rama Rao expressed deep concern over the official indifference and said the failure to even appoint legal aid was inexcusable. He appreciated Johnson Naik for his tireless work and being a selfless leader committed to the welfare of the people of Khanapur.
