The district veterinary department released a health bulletin on Monday evening.
According to District Veterinary Officer Ravinder Reddy, eight bulls died on the first day due to illnesses brought on by unseasonal rain. Five more succumbed the following day.
In response, the district administration deployed 12 medical teams led by five veterinary doctors. Of the 20 bulls treated initially, 16 were saved, while four could not be revived.
Between Sunday evening and Monday, three additional bulls died. Out of the 1,300 bulls sheltered at the goshala, 16 are still ill, with six in serious condition.
Though veterinary doctors are making intensive efforts to treat the animals with necessary fluids and medicines, the affected bulls have not responded to treatment so far.
To improve the availability of green fodder at the goshala, authorities have requested the supplier to increase deliveries — from one tractor-load per day to five, totaling 10 tonnes daily. Officials also urged the public not to believe fake news circulating on social media.
