Female medical students injured in road accident at Kothagudem

The accident occurred when the auto-rickshaw overturned as the driver swerved to avoid a collision with an oncoming biker.

Kothagudem: Five female students of Government Medical College (GMC), Kothagudem, sustained injuries in a road accident on Friday evening while returning to their hostel from college in an auto-rickshaw.

The injured students, all in their third year of MBBS, are undergoing treatment at Mata Shishu Kendra in Ramavaram. One of them, Gnaneshwari, suffered a collarbone fracture, while Kalyani and Ameki sustained serious leg injuries. The other two students, Sindhu and Deena, received minor injuries.

The accident occurred when the auto-rickshaw overturned as the driver swerved to avoid a collision with an oncoming biker.

In the aftermath, the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (T-JUDA) held the college administration responsible, demanding urgent measures to ensure student safety, including proper transportation facilities.

T-JUDA alleged that despite repeated representations and written complaints submitted to the Principal, Dr K Raja Kumar, over the past two years regarding transportation problems, no action had been taken. Due to the distance between the college, hostel, and hospital, students are compelled to rely on unsafe auto-rickshaws for daily commuting, they said.
