Tripura has been officially declared a fully literate State, becoming the third in India after Mizoram and Goa. At a ceremony in Agartala, officials highlighted the state’s efforts and called it a crucial step towards the Centre’s 2030 literacy goals
Agartala: Tripura on Monday became the third fully literate state in the country, following Mizoram and Goa, according to an announcement made by the Union Ministry of Education at an event held at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala.
Chief Minister Manik Saha, speaking at the event, called the achievement a “historic and proud moment” for the State. “After Mizoram and Goa, Tripura is now the third fully literate State in the Union of India. I congratulate all those who contributed to this mission,” Saha said.
He emphasised that literacy is a key component in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’. He also encouraged newly literate individuals to continue reading and writing to enhance their skills and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
Preeti Meena, Director of the Adult Literacy Department, Ministry of Education, praised Tripura’s efforts and announced that the Centre aims to make India fully literate by 2030.“In Tripura, we identified 23,184 illiterate adults and helped them attain literacy through focused interventions,” she said.
She also urged the state to now focus on continued education, skill development, and digital literacy for those who became literate. Tripura Education Department’s Special Secretary Raval H Kumar expressed gratitude to the central government for logistical and financial support that enabled the state to reach this milestone.
