Telangana: BJP accepts Raja Singh’s resignation from party

BJP MLA Raja Singh’s resignation from the party was officially accepted by the central leadership. The move follows his discontent with party decisions and internal appointments. His exit may lead to a bye-election in Goshamahal along with Jubilee Hills

Hyderabad: In a move that is set to trigger debates in political circles, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central leadership has accepted Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh’s resignation from the party on Friday.

The BJP central leadership has sent a letter to this effect to the MLA. In the letter, BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh informed Raja Singh that his resignation was brought to the notice of BJP National president JP Nadda.

“The contents mentioned by you are irrelevant and do not match the functioning, ideology and principles of the party. As per JP Nadda’s directions, I convey that your resignation has been accepted with immediate effect,” Arun Singh told Raja Singh in the letter.

The BJP MLA from Goshamahal had submitted his resignation letter to former BJP State president and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on June 30. This was after the BJP central leadership instructed former MLC N Ramchander Rao to file his nomination for the State BJP president’s post.

Among a few others, the Goshamahal MLA was aspiring to become the new BJP State chief. However, his hopes were dashed by the central leadership’s decision.

In his resignation letter, he had alleged that some individuals with personal agendas had misled the central leadership and taken decisions, sidelining the grassroots workers. “This letter reflects the pain and frustration of lakhs of BJP Karyakartas and supporters who feel sidelined and unheard,” Raja Singh had said.

For the last few months, Raja Singh has been very vocal against the party, especially revolting over a few decisions. He raised strong objection to the appointment of T Uma Mahendra as president of the Golconda-Goshamahal party unit and accused senior leaders of ignoring his recommendation to nominate a BC or SC leader to the post. Similarly, he found fault with the party’s decision to field Goutham Rao as BJP candidate for the Hyderabad Local Bodies Constituency MLC elections.

The Goshamahal MLA’s letter had triggered a verbal feud in the party with leaders demanding him to submit his resignation to the Assembly Speaker. It is still uncertain whether the MLA would submit his letter to the Speaker.

In case he does, the move would pave the way for another bye-election in the city along with Jubilee Hills constituency in the wake of sitting BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath’s death on June 8.
