Hyderabad: Several students of Nizam College staged a protest in front of the college gate demanding hostel accommodation, here on Saturday. Traffic at Basheerbagh was affected as the students sat in the middle of the junction.
Protesters complained that despite around 20 days into the commencement of the fresh academic year, the hostel was not opened, causing severe inconvenience to students who have come from far-off places.
Speaking to the media, one of the students alleged that they were asked to pay hostel and mess fees and questioned why the hostel was not opened despite them paying the fee.
Another student alleged that the college administration was postponing hostel opening dates. “The college commenced on July 2. The principal told us that the hostel would be opened on July 5, but when we asked again, they postponed it to July 11, later to July 14, and then to July 16. Admission fee has been increased from Rs 9,200 to Rs 9,800. We are not asking for free accommodation,” said the student.
