Hyderabad: Justice K. Lakshman of the Telangana High Court on Thursday dispensed with the personal appearance of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in connection with a criminal case pending before the Principal Special Judicial First Class Magistrate for Excise Cases at Hyderabad.

The matter arises from a 2016 complaint lodged by N. Upender, which led to the registration of an FIR at the Osmania University Police Station. The complaint pertains to a student meeting held at the Osmania Arts College, where Revanth Reddy, then the Working President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), allegedly delivered a strong political speech criticising the then BRS-led State government.

Revanth Reddy moved the High Court seeking quashing of the proceedings initiated in the case. During the hearing, Justice Lakshman dispensed with the personal appearance of Revanth Reddy before the trial court for the time being. The Court further directed that notice be served on the respondents and adjourned the matter for further consideration.
