Watch: Hyderabad’s Puranapul area inundated after release of surplus floodwater from Himayatsagar

Nine floodgates of Himayathsagar were lifted on Thursday, releasing surplus water and causing inundation at Puranapul. Officials say there is no immediate threat to nearby colonies but have prepared evacuation plans if the situation worsens

Hyderabad: The release of surplus floodwater from Himayatsagar by lifting nine out of 17 floodgates resulted in inundation at Puranapul area on Thursday.

Asifnagar Mandal Revenue Officer S Jyothi told Telangana Today that the situation was being closely monitored. “The floodwater suddenly rose near Puranapul. As of now, there is no danger to the colonies abutting this bridge.”

All measures have been taken to evacuate families to safe places like community halls and function halls in case the situation worsens, the MRO said.
