Cable TV, internet operators in Khammam told to remove cables from electric poles

Following a fatal electrocution in Hyderabad that claimed six lives during a Janmashtami rath yatra, TGNPDCL has launched a safety drive to clear illegally hung cables from electricity poles across Khammam district. Officials have directed cable TV and internet providers to remove dangling lines and junction boxes to prevent accidents.

Khammam: TGNPDCL officials have directed cable TV operators and internet service providers to remove their service cables dangerously dangling from electric poles across the district.

TGNPDCL SE E Srinivasa Chary held a meeting with cable TV operators and internet service providers following directives from Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to remove cables attached to electric poles.

The directions were issued following an electrocution incident on August 18 at Ramanthapur in Hyderabad during a rath yatra marking Sri Krishna Janmashtami, in which six devotees were killed.

Speaking to Telangana Today, NPDCL DE (Operations) Rama Rao said that the responsibility for removing the cables from the poles lies with the cable TV operators and internet service providers to prevent disruption of internet or cable TV services.

The process of removing unauthorised and low-hanging cables started on Thursday at Kalvoddu area. The drive will be carried out in all municipal areas of the district in a phased manner, he said.

In Burgampadu mandal in Kothagudem district, electricity department DE Jeevan Kumar also directed cable TV operators to remove the cables and junction boxes mounted on electric poles within the next three days.
