Niranjan Reddy condemns Agri Minister’s remarks against farmers, demands apology

Former Telangana Minister S. Niranjan Reddy has strongly criticised Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao for dismissive remarks about protesting farmers amid a growing urea shortage. Reddy accused the Congress-led government of mismanaging fertiliser supply and demanded an unconditional apology.

Hyderabad: Former Minister S Niranjan Reddy lashed out at Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao for his insensitive comments on farmers struggling for urea. He demanded that the Congress government and the Minister tender an unconditional apology.

In a statement, Niranjan Reddy said the State government was handling the urea supply irresponsibly. He said farmers were forced to stand in long queues in the rain, with Aadhaar cards and passbooks, for a single bag of urea.

“While the Chief Minister claims there is no shortage, the Agriculture Minister blames the Centre and dismisses protesting farmers as not real farmers. Are they running a government or a circus?” Niranjan Reddy asked

He said the Ministers were ignoring the farmers’ plight while spending time in star hotels for meetings. The government was negligent in reviewing agricultural needs during the monsoon, leading to the urea shortage.

“The Congress is playing with farmers’ lives,” he added.
