Telangana: Contractor stages protest at Bhongir Collectorate for pending bills

Frustrated over non-clearance of pending dues worth Rs 42 lakh, contractor N Krishna from Hanumapuram staged a protest with his family at the District Collector’s office on Monday. Civil contractors across Telangana have been demanding long-pending payments from the government for months

Yadadri Bhongir: Unable to secure clearance of his pending dues despite repeated pleas, a contractor, N Krishna, staged a protest along with his family members at the District Collector’s office here on Monday.

Carrying placards, Krishna and his family, including his two sons, put up a tent and squatted in front of the Collectorate demanding payment.

A resident of Hanumapuram village, Krishna said the government owed him Rs 42 lakh for works executed over the past two years.

“I am facing several hardships. I have been appealing to the officials to clear the bills, but there is no progress. If the government does not clear the bills, my family will have to commit suicide,” Krishna said.

For several months now, contractors have been urging the State government to release pending payments. In March, the Telangana Civil Contractors Association staged a protest at Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s chambers in the Secretariat. Last week, contractors of the ‘Mana Ooru Mana Badi’ scheme held a similar protest in the Secretariat.
