Hyderabad: Rains without a pause lashed different parts of the city, mainly the western parts and suburbs, through the Tuesday night. The incessant rain that continued on Wednesday morning ended up dampening the festive cheer of Vinayaka Chaturthi.
Serilingampally and its surrounding areas up to Kukatpally, Gachibowli and Patancheru bore the brunt of the incessant rain through the night. The highest rainfall till 6 am today was recorded at University of Hyderabad with 45.3 mm followed by Ramachandrapuram logging in 40.3 mm.
The areas of JPN Nagar in Miyapur recorded 37.3 mm rainfall while Gachibowli got 36.3 mm. Towards Miyapur, Jeedimetla, KPHB, the rainfall ranged between 25 mm and 30 mm.
The return of rains on Tuesday evening and continuing on Wednesday morning resulted in the much awaited commencement of Vinayaka Chaturthi festivities being impacted.
From main streets to colonies, the usual buzz of Ganesha idol sales went missing due to the rains. From the idols to ‘pathri’ leaves to modak laddu and other puja paraphernalia, the markets usually come alive on Vinayaka Chavithi day. However, today all that was impacted.
Even those setting up pandals had to wait for some break in the rains to be able to complete the setting up of pandal and bring in the Ganesha idols.
